Lesson 52/50 | Study Time: 30 Min
Stress & Pronunciation: Rhythm + Intonation

Core Rule

Russian words have one strong stressed syllable. Yes/No questions often use rising intonation at the end.

  Example Note
💬 спасибо Copy stress like music
💬 пожалуйста Keep one strong beat
💬 извините Stress guides rhythm
💬 Ты дома? Rising end = question
💬 Ты дома. Falling end = statement

Speaking Pattern 1 — Stress clap (train the rhythm)

Pattern: Clap once on the stressed syllable, then repeat

  Example Note
💬 спасибо Clap on strong syllable
💬 пожалуйста Keep others softer
💬 сегодня One clear beat
💬 хорошо Rhythm first

Speaking Pattern 2 — Statement → Yes/No question (intonation only)

Pattern: Same words → raise voice at the end

  Example Note
💬 Это чай. → Это чай? Intonation changes meaning
💬 Ты здесь. → Ты здесь? Word order stays same
💬 Он дома. → Он дома? Raise at the end
💬 Вы готовы. → Вы готовы? Works with formal “you”

Speaking Pattern 3 — Question words (start strong)

Pattern: Stress the question word, then finish smoothly

  Example Note
💬 Где метро? Strong start
💬 Что это? Clear question word
💬 Кто это? Who-question
💬 Как вас зовут? Name question

Mini-Drill (Say 5)

  Example Note
💬 Это кофе? Yes/No question
💬 Это кофе. Statement
💬 Ты здесь? Rising end
💬 Где метро? Question word
💬 Что это? Question word
